This was another tall Tower House of the Burkes, which went to the Persse family. The Burkes (de Burgo) were one of the Tribes of Galway. The castle is now restored and inhabited. Moyode Castle, a stunning example of a sixteenth-century fortified tower house located 3.5 miles from the town of Athenry.
