Dalkey Podiatry Clinic was established in January 2003 with its aim to provide a range of lower limb medical treatments for all ranges of foot ailments. We provide a diverse range of treatments with in the clinic and all practitioners are competently trained. All our practitioners must hold a BSc in Podiatry as a minimum requirement and they must have completed a minimum of 1,000 clinical hours at a recognized school of Podiatry either in Ireland or the UK. Occasionally we do have Podiatry students attending the practice but this would be purely for observational reasons. In our clinic we provide routine Chiropody treatments, for toenail conditions such as fungal nail infections, psoriatic nails and ingrown Toenails. We treat verrucae using salicylic acid, silver nitrate and Cryotherapy. Callous debridement, treatment for heel fissures and hyperhidrosis are also part of the conditions we treat. Diabetes foot care is a huge part of our practice. We provide regular Diabetic foot checks for circulation and sensation. Foot care advice is given to all our diabetic clients and they are all actively encouraged to attend for regular foot care checks and treatment. We work closely with the Diabetic Hospital Podiatrist and have access to pathways if we feel further attention is required. Rheumatology foot care is another important aspect of our clinical practice. Many of our clients suffer with Rheumatoid Arthritis, Psoriatic arthritis, Raynaud’s’ Phenomenon, Scleroderma and Polymyalgia. We aim to give them some comfort and pain relief so as they can remain active, which is a huge important aspect of the management of their condition. We provide insoles, orthotics and in some cases footwear. Peripheral Vascular Disease is an increasing problem that sees clients developing foot related complications. Neurological conditions these clients may require routine care but may also require biomechanical intervention to help stabilize the clients gait and allow them to keep mobile. Sports related biomechanical injuries, we provide detailed biomechanical assessments that are carried out by the practitioner and not by a computer. We develop a relationship with the client when prescribing the orthotic device and important follow up appointments are made to establish that the device is working correctly and the desired effect is achieved. We treat Achilles tendonopathies, Planter fasciitis, heel spur, metatarsalgia, capsulitis and Morton’s neuroma. Padding and strapping are an important element of the treatment provided. Both Jennifer and Emily are qualified in the “Rock Tape” low- dye strapping techniques, which prove to be an effective and beneficial tool in the treatment of many sports related foot ailments. We follow the best-practice guidelines as issued by the Society of Chiropody and Podiatry UK. We will endeavor to provide gold standard care of our clients, however we are aware that some aspects of foot problems are beyond our scope of practice and we do refer clients onto orthopedic surgeons, Podiatric surgeons, Dermatologists and Diabetic Podiatry specialists when the need arises.
