TRUCKERS LUCKY ESCAPE AS FLOUR AND EGGS THROWN FROM FLYOVER
Truck drivers had a lucky escape as vandals hurled items from a flyover on the M8 near Glocca Maura outside Mitchelstown on Thursday night last, writes Brian Moore. A truck driver who was travelling to Cork narrowly escaped crashing his fully laden lorry when the vehicle was hit by eggs and flour when he was on the M8.
“As I went under one of the flyovers just outside Mitchelstown flour and eggs rained down on the truck. This has been happening over and over again in this area, the bag of flour and eggs completely covered my windscreen and I was lucky that I was able to pull over without crashing," Paul Moran from Dublin told Joe Duffy on Liveline on Tuesday afternoon last.
Mr Moran went on to say that when he go out of the truck he saw two other trucks that had also been hit.
“I saw four or five young fellas’ on the flyover just laughing at us. I rang the gardai but they said that they were busy and they didn’t come out. I know lots of people who have been hit in this area," Mr Moran confirmed.
The gardai in Mitchelstown are investigating.
“This is extremely dangerous and we are taking these reports very seriously. I would appeal to anybody that that might know who was involved in these incidents to contact the Gardai in Mitchelstown,” a spokesperson told The Avondhu.
