TRAGIC DEATH STUNS SOUTH LIMERICK COMMUNITY
Two communities were united in grief in Galbally and Ballylanders this week after the tragic death of local young man, Michael ‘Mikey’ Russell, of Oliver Plunkett Terrace, Ballylanders.
Both communities were in mourning after the 24 year old man died when his car crashed into a ditch at Carrickaroche near Galbally at approximately 2.30am on Sunday morning last.
His 18 year old nephew, named locally as David Moore from Emly, County Tipperary, was also travelling in the vehicle at the time. He was subsequently taken to the Mid Western Regional Hospital in Dooradoyle, Limerick where he was treated for non life threatening injuries.
GREAT TRAGEDY
“It’s a great tragedy for the family and the community of Ballylanders,” Galbally Fianna Fail county councillor, Eddie Ryan told The Avondhu.
“Unfortunately, it was the turn of Ballylanders this week to suffer the loss of 24 year old Michael who was taken from his family too soon. It’s a great loss, especially for his mother and extended family, ” Cllr Ryan added.
The vehicle collided with what has been described locally as a ‘sceach’ bush on the right hand side of a long sweeping bend as it travelled in the direction of Galbally.
