THE CURTAIN COMES DOWN FOR 100-YEAR OLD PHARMACY
The end of an era was marked with the closure of Murphy's Pharmacy at Lower Cork Street, Mitchelstown last weekend. Customers called in to get their final prescriptions and also pay tribute to the fine service provided by the family down through the decades.
For proprietors, Peter and Eileen Murphy, it was a bitter sweet occasion. Sad at the passing of an institution that lasted for one hundred years, they will find solace in the fact that the family name will be very much to the forefront of the pharmaceutical business at Murphy's Abbey Pharmacy at the Tesco Shopping Centre in the town.
As with many other aspects of life over the past decade, the closure represented yet another strand in the ever changing passage of time. Nothing ever stays the same, even for a business that has served its customers so well for over a century
