RATES TOO HIGH FOR STRUGGLING MITCHELSTOWN BUSINESSES
With more businesses closing their doors due to high costs and overheads, the Mitchelstown Business Association and auctioneers in the town are calling for action on the high rates. Local auctioneer Michael Dorgan told The Avondhu that while many premises are empty because of the recession, high rates are also a big issue.
“A huge issue is commercial rates, they are quite exorbitant. A lot of landlords have adjusted their price because no one wants an empty building but for most the rates are nearly as high as the rent,” he said.
