PARISH PRIEST POURS COLD WATER ON APPARITIONS
Father Michael Fitzgerald, parish priest, in Mitchelstown says he is very sceptical about the goings on at Knock last weekend. Thousands gathered at the shrine earlier this month after a Dublin-based clairvoyant predicted that Our Lady would reappear at the scene of the 1879 apparition.
And it has been estimated that over 10,000 people turned up at the shrine last weekend to witness the predicted apparition.
“I am very sceptical about this man who says he is a clairvoyant. I would never tell someone not to pray but there are a lot of vulnerable people out there who are looking for some hope in their lives, but I, personally, would not be attending any of these meetings in Knock,” Father Fitzgerald told The Avondhu.
At Knock Shrine people reported seeing the sun shimmering, changing colour and dancing in the sky. “The sun was spinning in the sky. I experienced a feeling of total happiness”.
“It is a feeling I would love to experience again. It was amazing. I felt marvellous,” one observer who didn’t want to be named told The Avondhu.
The Dublin-based clairvoyant, Joe Coleman, predicted Our Lady would appear at the old parish church – scene of the 1879 apparition at 3pm on Saturday and also claimed that Mary had appeared to him and given him a message which he would pass on to the people in due course.
Michael Sheehan from Castlelyons, who was with a bus load of pilgrims heading for Clonfert, said that the reports from Knock were, “Just very ridiculous, I am very sceptical about all this, it is ridiculous. We had a bus full of people from Mitchelstown and the surrounding parishes travelling to Clonfert and I never heard anything so ridiculous,” Mr Sheehan told The Avondhu.
