Mitchelstown returns to the vibrant place it was three years ago
New activity in the empty buildings on Lower Cork Street in Mitchelstown could make the town as vibrant as it was back in 2010, when every business on the street was operating.
This is according to the chairman of the MBA, Mark Waldron, who welcomed news this week that on top of the new business which opened last week, two more businesses are set to open in the coming weeks.
Just last week, Good Deals, which buys and sells children's clothes, prams and toys, opened on Lower Cork Street; the Sue Ryder charity shop is set to open in the former discount shop across the road from Good Deals and this week, The Avondhu learned that Pricesavers will be opening in the former Sue Ryder shop.
They are currently looking for full and part time staff and have asked interested candidates to submit their CV's to the store on Friday, May 10, when the shop will be attended.
As well as this, Big Taste, a kebab shop and take away and IFlutter, an eyelash extension beauty salon run by Ballylanders woman Vicky Ahern, both opened on Lower Cork Street in the past month.
Mark said that when he first opened his own fruit and vegetable shop three and a half years ago, the street was vibrant and busy, but as time went on, doors started to close and now it seems as if there is a welcome shift, with these doors starting to open again.
He added that with Mitchelstown's central location being close to the motorway and with ample dining and shopping opportunities, the town has an awful lot to offer for potential tenants who are thinking of bringing a new business into the town.
"It's great to see the businesses opening and the idea of the MBA is to welcome people to Mitchelstown and let them see how vibrant it is. To my knowledge, there has also been other interest in a few other vacant premises around Mitchelstown," he said.
He also encouraged people to see for themselves what these new shops have to offer and said that people should endeavour to support these new businesses as well as existing ones in the town.
