Mitchelstown Musical Society prepare to get townspeople 'All Shook Up'
The Mitchelstown Musical Society are in full swing, with 28 cast members putting the finishing touches to their dance moves and vocals, ahead of the opening performance of 'All Shook Up' on Tuesday, February 18.
Chairperson of the musical society, Maria Murphy, explained that the show is all about the music.
"Yes, it has great comedy, romance and dance, but the music is really exceptional. We’re all looking forward to the audience reaction to some great performances of many of the Elvis songs. The show opens with an up tempo version of Jailhouse Rock, followed by Heartbreak Hotel and it goes on from there at a hectic pace," she said.
On Tuesday, as rehearsals were in full swing and Jenny Hoare was choreographing performers to C'mon Everybody, the room was electric, with everyone focussing on getting every single movement just right.
HIGH STANDARDS
Every year, the musical society have built on the success of previous years, but it will be hard to follow on from the phenomenal success of The Wizard of Oz in 2013. "We know we have a hard act to follow after last year’s success with The Wizard of Oz, but director Kevin McCormack and choreographer Jenny have really upped the ante in the past few weeks to ensure we’ll be more than ready for opening night on February 18".
"There is a rehearsal every night this week and we won’t have much free time on weekends either from now on. But we all get great satisfaction as the show comes together," Maria told The Avondhu.
Ticket sales are going well, particularly for opening night with ticket prices of just €10, a price that Maria says is geared towards encouraging families to attend.
"Both the Thursday and Saturday performances are also selling well, even at this early stage I'd like to remind your readers that there were a lot of disappointed people last year who didn’t buy tickets early and couldn’t get to the show. We’ve sold out every performance in the past couple of years and we fully expect the same this year," Maria said.
