MITCHELSTOWN WILL LIGHT UP
There will after all be light at what looked like being the end of a very dark tunnel for Mitchelstown with the confirmation this week that funding has been secured for the annual festive display.
“The Christmas lights will go ahead,” Eamonn O’Brien of the Mitchelstown Business Association (MBA) told The Avondhu.
“We’re at an advanced stage of discussions with a potential sponsor who may be making an announcement next week. They just need to confirm with their colleagues before issuing the official details.”
It had been looking doubtful that Mitchelstown would have Christmas lights in 2011 with the MBA reporting last month that they couldn’t afford to come up with an estimated €5,000 for the display. However, Eamonn O’Brien said at the time the MBA would strive to source outside funds for the lights and this is what appear to have happened.
“We will after all be celebrating Christmas cheer,” Eamonn told The Avondhu. “It is very important to light up Mitchelstown, especially in these dark gloomy days.”
“We are also talking about enhancing or improving the current lights and illuminating the trees in the Square and consideration is being given the implementation of a programme where businesses can sponsor a tree if they want. We’re striving to have Mitchelstown bright and full of colour this Christmas.”
“There are also plans to hold another ‘KoolChristmas’ this year,” Mr O’Brien continued. This is a project, which will see the town hall turned into a winter wonderland for the festive season.
