MITCHELSTOWN LIBRARY PLAN SUFFERS SETBACK
There will, it appears, be no new library for Mitchelstown this year, writes Brian Moore. The opening of the library, located at the Sutton’s Court development in Mitchelstown, was scheduled to take place in September.
“The tendering process was complete and Ridge Construction were to be awarded the contract for outfitting the new library,” Cllr Kevin O’Keeffe told The Avondhu.
However, as Ridge Construction are now in liquidation, the contract will have to be awarded to another company.
“This is very disappointing, the people of Mitchelstown have waited long enough for their new library and now we are back to square one again,” Cllr O’Keeffe said.
The tendering process will now have to begin again.
“This is unbelievable, Mitchelstown needs a new library and now after what has been a very long wait the community will not have this vital resource. I will continue to work to ensure that the process is completed swiftly and that the new library is opened as soon as possible,” Cllr Noel McCarthy told The Avondhu.
“The other tenders will now have to be re examined and a new contractor appointed to carry out the work before the library can open. All going well this should be early in the New Year,” Cllr O’Keeffe said.
