KILWORTH CLUB’S 16-YEAR BATTLE TO SECURE FIELD IS OVER
After a 16 year wait Kilworth Celtic F.C. is to have a place to call home at long last. The local soccer club, which was formed in 1996, found it a struggle to secure a site to accommodate its facilities before reaching an agreement this week to purchase what will be known as ‘Sheila Flynn Park’ at Moorepark East.
“We were close to finding a home a number of years ago,” club chairman Gus Shanahan told The Avondhu.
“Unfortunately, there were issues with access onto the land, so the plug was pulled entirely and we were back to square one. But we never gave up and have been plugging away behind the scenes ever since.”
