Home and Away star takes Mitchelstown by storm
Many would know him from the television screens as Home and Away's Heath Braxton, but on Thursday last, young fans got the chance to get up close and personal with Aussie actor Dan Ewing when he came to the Website Nightclub in The Clongibbon House, Mitchelstown for an exclusive meet and greet teenage disco.
There were over 250 teenagers aged between 13 and 17 in the nightclub on the night, all queueing eagerly for their chance to meet the soap star and have their picture taken with him.
Organiser Justin Finn said that the atmosphere on the night was brilliant, they have had some amazing feedback through Facebook and Dan was really nice to everyone.
"Dan was extremely nice to deal with, so polite and had all the time in the world to chat with teenagers and nothing was rushed. We would definitely look at getting him back again in the future. As for Mitchelstown, he told me that he found all the teenagers to be very polite and great fun," Justin told The Avondhu.
Speaking to The Avondhu, Dan said that the biggest thing about his tour was adjusting to the change in weather, as he left Sydney just after he celebrated Christmas at home with his wife Marni to arrive in Ireland when stormy weather, gale force winds, ice and even snow at times were rife.
"I'll put it this way, I left Sydney in a pair of shorts and a vest and quickly changed into some much more suitable attire," the soap star said.
Dan and his wife Marni, celebrated New Year's Eve in The Woolshed in Cork and Dan said that he was looking forward to seeing some of the sights around Mitchelstown.
He added that the Cork part of his tour holds a special meaning for him, as his grandmother who sadly passed away on December 23 at the age of 102 was born in Skibbereen.
Dan said that while she lived to a great age, it was really sad that she passed away before he arrived in Ireland for his tour.
Over the past year, Home and Away fans have watched as Heath (played by Dan Ewing) and Bianca lost their baby son Rocco, to cot death and almost didn't make it up the aisle.
Dan said that the storyline about the cot death was extremely difficult to do, but that they got lovely feedback from families who had unfortunately been through something similar and they were very touched by how it was done.
He revealed that there are some big rifts between Heath and Bianca on the way and one may involve an old flame.
Looking ahead, Dan said that he plans to do some movie work, but in the meantime fans can expect to see much more of Heath in Summer Bay.
Justin told The Avondhu that they are already planning their next event for February 7 and he revealed that they are looking into having Gaz or Vicky from Geordie Shore.
"We are looking at running adult gigs in conjunction with teenage events and if people are interested in attending these, please show your interest on the "Website Nightclub @ The Clon" Facebook page," Justin said.
He also thanked AOS security company who did a wonderful job on the night, putting the safety of every teen first. They have a lot of experience in the teenage event industry and have a search policy in place and no child is allowed to leave without an adult until the event is over.
"We put the safety of all the teenagers that attend our events first and if any parents wish to contact me about our events, they can do so on 087 2619925," Justin added.
