Galtee Steering Group to hold fundraising walk in Ballyporeen
At the end of this month, the Galtee Steering Group will hold a fundraising walk to raise money to go towards erecting signs in the Galtee area.
The group have received a grant for the signs, but have to raise 25% of the cost of the signs, which will act as information points for visitors, letting them know about the attractions in the area.
On Saturday, August 31, the Concern Four County Challenge Walk will take place and the 33km walk will start at Bay Lough and finish in King's Yard near Skeheenarinky. To give people a shorter alternative, the Galtee Steering Group have organised a walk on the same day, so that people can take part in the last 10km of this walk.
A bus will leave King's Yard at 1.15pm on that day and will bring walkers to the start point near Ballyporeen. The walk will cross the valley which links the Knockmealdowns and Galtees, going across country roads and forestry tracks. It will take around three hours at a leisurely pace and will be led by members of the Knockmealdown Ramblers.
For the 10km fundraising walk, there will be a €10 entry fee, which includes a snack bag and bus transfer. Parking at King's Yard will also cost €2 and there will be the option of purchasing hot food there afterwards. All are welcome to join in the fun walk on Saturday, August 31 - mark your diaries!
