DAIRYGOLD STANDS DOWN FIRE CREW
Dairygold has decided to disband its internal fire crew. The crew was established thirty years ago to respond to fire incidents potentially arising at Dairygold’s processing sites in Mitchelstown.
A spokesman for Dairygold told The Avondhu, “In line with best practice Health & Safety and Risk Management guidelines, companies are today incorporating the established and professional local fire services into their Emergency Response Plans.
"Mitchelstown now has a very professional fire service in the town which is trained and serviced to respond within minutes to incidents potentially arising at Dairygold’s facilities.”
The six Dairygold employees who volunteered for the extra circular fire crew duties remain full-time Dairygold employees responsible for their daily 9 to 5 roles within the co-op.
“Dairygold would like to take the opportunity to thank the volunteers for their commitment over the years,” the spokesman said.
The Avondhu understands that the fire brigade personnel, who were, it is believed, paid an annual retainer, are in negotiation with Dairygold in relation to a severance package of some nature.
