CLOCKS CALL TIME IN MITCHELSTOWN
Has time stood still in Mitchelstown?
Well, if you rely on any of the town’s clocks to keep you from missing those important appointments you may well think so. Of the four public clocks that are located around the town, not one of them is working.
For example, the hands on the clock, which takes prominent position over Reidy’s SuperValu in the Square, have not been seen to move in many months.
The clock which hangs outside Willie Andies Pub, can no longer be used to see how much more drinking time you have while the public timepiece outside Farrell’s Centra has also stopped.
So then Mass goers in Mitchelstown will always be able to rely on the clock at the church in the town? Well, not really, as it has also been out of action for over six months.
One local wag suggested using the sundial in the square - the plaque on the ground has instructions on how to calculate time using this ancient form of timekeeping.
However, with the lack of sunlight these days might also be a bit difficult and you wouldn’t be able to use it at night. You could, of course, just buy a watch and Carla Walsh at Murphy’s Jewellers can help here.
“I know a company who we could call to repair the clocks in the town,” Carla told The Avondhu.
Until then, however, Mitchelstown will, it seems, have to remain timeless!
