CLAIM THAT 100,000 OWED TO SUBCONTRACTORS
Local subcontractors are, it is alleged, out of pocket to the tune of €100,000 for work completed on eight houses in Stag Park, Mitchelstown.
The work, which was carried out before Christmas was part of a county council development by builder Frank McGrath. One of the subcontractors who contacted The Avondhu said, “We finished up the work just before Christmas. Our contact from Frank McGrath Construction, said that we needed to contact Barry Wilson of Wilson Contracting in Glanworth as the work had been subcontracted to his firm.
"There are plasters, carpenters and plumbers who have not been paid. When we spoke to Mr Wilson he told us he was not able to pay us for the work at the moment and to take the matter up with Frank McGrath Builders.”
When The Avondhu contacted Barry Wilson he said, “My company is continuing to trade and I am out of pocket from the Stag Park site as well. The subcontractors should take this up with the county council and Frank McGrath Builders. As soon as I am able to pay the subcontractors I will,” Mr Wilson said.
Spokespersons for Frank McGrath Construction Ltd or Cork County Council were unavailable for comment. Stag Park has several houses, which, although completed, are not occupied and are boarded up.
The residents at the Mitchelstown estate have organised a community watch system in order to combat antisocial behaviour in the area.
