BISHOP MAGEE SETTLES INTO RETIREMENT IN TOWN
Mitchelstown is now home to retired bishop, John Magee, writes Brian Moore.
Bishop Magee has been living at the canon’s house in the town for over two months now after Pope Benedict XVI accepted his resignation from the Diocese of Cloyne in March of this year.
Having served as private secretary to three Popes (Paul VI, Pope John Paul I and Pope John Paul II) he was appointed Bishop of Cloyne by Pope John Paul II in 1987.
“Bishop Magee is now living at the canon’s house and has been since June,” local parish priest, Father Michael Fitzgerald told The Avondhu.
However, it is unclear, as yet, if Bishop Magee will be officiating at any parish services.
“The bishop is now retired and settling into his new home in Mitchelstown,” Fr Fitzgerald concluded.
