ALDI DISTRIBUTION CENTRE PROJECT ON SCHEDULE
As the construction of the Aldi distribution centre in Mitchelstown continues locals have been asking questions about the numbers to be employed there and other issues.
Unconfirmed reports from the site suggest that the work is behind schedule and that the number of construction jobs at the project has been reduced.
It has also been alleged that the majority of the construction materials are sourced outside Ireland with many of the main concrete works being manufactured in Germany and then shipped to Mitchelstown for assembly.
The Avondhu put these questions to Aldi, with an emphasis on the question why the company sourced its building materials outside Ireland. Aldi did not reply to the specific queries questions but issued a one line statement to the effect that ‘The project is progressing according to schedule’.
It has also been suggested locally that the number of jobs at the distribution centre when up and running will be far less than had been originally anticipated when the project was first announced.
