81,578 FOR A 5 EURO BET
Christmas came early for one Mitchelstown punter who scooped a staggering €81,578 windfall from a €5 each way bet at Punchestown this week.
The lucky North Cork man picked seven horses to win each of the seven races at the county Kildare venue on Tuesday when Sunday’s abandoned race card was re-run. His selection in the sixth race, Deutschland, was a non-runner which left him with a six-fold accumulator.
His massive 8,000/1 gamble was landed after each of his six selections romped home in impressive fashion (SP’s - Persian City 9/4, Go Native 7/2, Imaalhall 9/2, Noland 9/4, Kilcrea Castle 6/1, Bob’s Display 9/4).
Paddy Power said, “We took some spanking at Punchestown courtesy of so many favourites and second favourites obliging but that shouldn’t take away from this lucky punter’s achievement. Getting six winners out of seven is the stuff of legends. Fair play to him.”
