Eddi Reader is delighted to announce her eighth annual Irish tour, which will see the internationally acclaimed and enigmatic Scottish songstress return to Ireland for ten performances nationwide between the 10th and 21st of February 2016. Eddi will be performing with John Douglas and Boo Hewerdine on guitars, Alan Kelly on piano accordion and Kevin McGuire on double bass.
With a career spanning over 3 decades, Eddi Reader has effortlessly developed into one of popular music’s most thrilling and affecting performers. Having first hit the limelight in the 1980’s with the group Fairground Attraction (who enjoyed huge chart success with their debut No.1 single Perfectand album First of a Million Kisses), Eddi went on to collaborate on many celebrated projects throughout the years, famously harmonizing with Annie Lennox while touring with the Eurythmics and paying her punk dues with a successful stint in the group Gang of Four. However it has been Eddi’s subsequent solo albums that have cemented her image as a powerful figure in British music.
2014 saw Eddi widely celebrating the release of her eighth and deeply personal, yet universal sounding solo album, Vagabond (Feb 2014). Produced by Eddi herself, it was recorded in her hometown of Glasgow with a cast of well-chosen musicians and long-term musical collaborators. Akin to an autobiographical work, Vagabond is a reflective and whimsical journey through family and inspired musical and poetic heroes that reconfirms Eddi’s intuitive ability to transform any song or genre into her own. She has also released an EP entitled Back the Dogs (Oct 2014) which includes her tantalizing versions of both the 1950’s Ray Evans and Jay Livingston song, Mona Lisa and the 1960s classic, Moon River by Henry Mancini and Johnny Mercer.
With an MBE for outstanding contributions to the arts, 3 BRIT awards, a #1 single and 8 critically acclaimed solo albums, what sets Eddi apart is the depth and quality of the emotional performance and ability not only to move the listener, but to connect her experience to that of her audience. With beautifully raw vocals and an unparalleled romanticism, Eddi continues to captivate and inspire audiences from her own native Scotland to the UK, Japan, Canada, Australia and Europe and is considered to be “one of Scotland’s greatest national treasures” The Scotsman.
