WOMAN LOCKED IN OWN HOME PLEADS FOR DOUBLE YELLOW LINES
A private resident living in Fermoy claims that she has been asking the town council to put down double yellow lines outside her house for the past four years to deter people from parking there.
Geraldine McCarthy who lives at Elbow Lane, Fermoy, claims that she’s been on to several of the Fermoy town councillors but to date nobody has done anything to help her. At this stage Geraldine says that she is fed up and tired of being ignored.
“People just come along and park right outside my front door so I can’t actually leave my house. Recently there was a car parked there for two days and I had to contact Cllr Noel McCarthy to see what could be done about it. I don’t understand why it is so difficult for the council to put double yellow lines down, or a yellow box. I am right across the road from The Elbow Inn and they have double yellow lines so I don’t see why I can’t have them,” Geraldine told The Avondhu.
Cllr Noel McCarthy said that he recently contacted the gardai when Ms McCarthy was locked in her home, due to a white car being parked outside her door for two days.
“I rang them to see what they could do but they said that they couldn’t act unless there were double yellow lines there. Something has to be done as it isn’t good enough that someone cannot access or exit their own home and this has been going on for too long,” Cllr McCarthy told The Avondhu.
Fermoy town engineer, John O’Leary was unavailable to comment at the time of going to print.
