Two Fermoy business premises damaged by storm
The premises of two prominent Fermoy businesses suffered severe damage during the recent Storm Darwin.
Hickey's clothing store and it's Patrick Street neighbour, Mellerick's Pharmacy, both suffered damage to their roofs. Mellerick's quickly decamped and moved across the road, opening in vacant premises a short time later than afternoon. They'll remain there until repairs on their premises are completed.
Hickey's were able to continuing trading as the damage in their case was contained within the top floor of the building and didn't affect the shop floor areas.
Slates and tiles blew off the roofs of various shops and houses in and around the town as the storm raged from lunchtime to early afternoon. Cork County Council cordoned off sections of footpath in the main thoroughfare as a precaution to pedestrians.
