TOWNSPEOPLE URGED TO GET BEHIND ENHANCEMENT PLAN
Representatives from Avondhu Blackwater Partnership Ltd and An Taisce met with Fermoy residents last Monday night in The Grand Hotel to formulate a plan aimed at enhancing streets, estates and neighbourhoods.
Operating under the heading of the Rural Development Programme 2007-2013 the proposed initiative has the backing of Fermoy Tidy Towns committee and if fully realised would radically transform the town.
Avondhu Blackwater Partnership Ltd CEO Valerie Murphy said she was delighted with the large attendance and she urged representatives from the various residents’ associations to get behind the initiative.
“This is a tremendous opportunity for the people of Fermoy to have an input into what their town will look like in the future, at the meeting I encouraged residents to be ambitious for their town and bring forward proposals that would add to the various estates in Fermoy,” Valerie said.
Cllr. Noel McCarthy who chaired the meeting was equally enthusiastic
“People often remark that they’re not consulted about developments, well, here we have a scenario where citizens are being brought on board and their opinions sought, I thought the feedback this evening was very good and I think with the necessary goodwill and support the enhancement plan can work”, Noel remarked.
Those who organised last Monday’s meeting were anxious that townspeople be made aware that the annual Spring Clean Week was fast approaching (14th to 22nd April) – Spring Clean Week will be formally launched at Fermoy Courthouse on Saturday morning next, 2nd April at 11am.
