SuperValu Fermoy and Mitchelstown contribute to €100,000 donation to Focus Ireland
SuperValu recently donated €100,000 to Focus Ireland. As part of SuperValu’s on-going commitment to Irish communities, 14 cent from every 19cent bag of carrots, net of brussel sprouts and melons sold in the days before Christmas 2013, were donated to Focus Ireland. All 30 SuperValu stores across Cork contributed to the campaign encouraging sales of carrots, brussel sprouts and melons in an effort to further enhance SuperValu’s charitable contribution to Focus Ireland.
Mark Byrne, Acting CEO Focus Ireland said “We are delighted to accept this significant donation from SuperValu and its customers which will help fund our vital work providing over 70 services to combat and prevent homelessness across Ireland. Every single euro of this donation will support this work to help children and families who are homeless and trapped in awful situations. It will also support our work to prevent many families and people from losing their home in the first place.”
SuperValu's MD, Martin Kelleher said: “Our decision to not follow the market in reducing prices, and instead offer a significant percentage of every sale to charity, enabled our customers to make a contribution to a worthy cause while also supporting Irish suppliers.
Mr Kelleher paid tribute to all 30 Cork city and county stores including Riordan’s SuperValu Fermoy, Ryan’s SuperValu Glanmire and Reidy’s SuperValu Mitchelstown for their support of this initiative.
