RATHCORMAC'S 'ANNIE' TO SING IN ST COLMAN'S CONCERT
Rathcormac schoolgirl, Claire O’Leary who recently won her place as the alternate ‘Annie’ in the Olympia Theatre in Dublin and the Opera House Cork, is to perform as part of the Mary Hegarty & Friends’ concert in St Colman’s College Hall, Fermoy on this Friday night.
Claire, who is a daughter of the well-known theatrical coach, producer and actress, Valerie O’Leary, was a finalist on the nationwide ‘Searching For Annie’ competition on the Mooney Show on RTE1. She was chosen from a total of 1,100 children who auditioned for the part in Cork and Dublin.
She will perform songs from two musicals on Friday night - ‘Maybe’ from ‘Annie’ and ‘Popular’ from ‘Wicked’. Claire is delighted to be taking part alongside other great performers like Eric Nolan (tenor), Joe Corbett (baritone) and the highly regarded locally-based Orpheus Choir as well of course as the wonderful Mary Hegarty herself.
Despite being just 11 years old, Claire has taken part in ‘Sweet Charity’ with Fermoy Choral Society; in the Fermoy Community Youth Centre panto ‘Sleeping Beauty’; she played the lead in ‘Susical The Musical’ in the Everyman Palace and played in ‘Cinderella’ and ‘Sleeping Beauty’ in Cork Opera House as well as being a participant in Feis Maitiu.
A student of both Cork Arts Studio and of The Montforts in Fermoy, she will alternate with Limerick girl, Natasia Vashko in ‘Annie’ alongside Rebecca Storm and ‘Sandy’ the dog in The Gaiety Theatre, Dublin this July and in Cork Opera House in August.
