MARY CELEBRATES THE CENTURY
Born on December 5, 1908, Mary Clancy from Fermoy celebrated a very significant birthday last Friday.
Only a handful of citizens manage to stay around for 10 decades but that’s what the Mayo native has done. Physical frailties aside, 100-year-old Mary is completely lucid and alert to everything that’s going on around her.
“She’s totally with it and we still have some very interesting conversations,” says her son Brian. Her other son Michael was also present for the big day and he too vouches for the razor sharp mind of his mother.
Having spent time in the US and England, Mary survived the Great Depression and the blitzing of London during World War Two.
Now in the excellent care of matron Anne O’Connor and staff at St. Patrick’s Hospital, Fermoy Mary is looking forward to many more years of health and happiness..
