GO SLOW FORCES COUNCILLORS TO MEET AT LUNCHTIME
Fermoy town councillors have had to rearrange the next town council meeting due to the ongoing industrial action by the public service unions. The next town council meeting was scheduled for Tuesday, May 18 at 6pm.
However, because this is seen as being outside normal working hours for town hall staff, the meeting has been rearranged for lunchtime on Tuesday, May 18 instead.
“We have made an arrangement to have the council meeting at lunchtime however this is now a problem for some of the councillors would will have to leave work to attend the meeting,” Fermoy Mayor Noel McCarthy told The Avondhu.
“I have nothing against people going on strike and that is their right. However, this ‘go slow’ is a disgrace. If the public service wants to go on strike then they should go on strike, if you tried this go-slow policy in the private sector you would be out on your ear. The staff are still getting their wages every week and causing problems for the people of the town, this is not on,” Cllr Olive Corcoran said.
