GLORIOUS DOUBLE BECKONS
Teams from Fermoy and Glanworth are involved in county finals this weekend. It’s a huge occasion for all concerned and in both cases there are justifiable grounds for optimism.
Fermoy, fresh from their historic county hurling final success are back in Pairc Ui Chaoimh on Saturday (2.30pm) where their minor footballers face city kingpins St Finbarr’s in the prestigious premier ‘1’ decider.
To date Fermoy’s U18s have accounted for Nemo Rangers (quarter-final) and Carrigaline (semi-final); while affording their illustrious opponents a healthy respect, there’s no reason why a team who’ve formed a winning habit can’t close out the deal with a win. The departure of charismatic trainer, Mick Hennessy to Chad on peace keeping duty hasn’t hindered preparations and the lads would like nothing better than to ‘do it for the gaffer’.
Out the road Pat Spratt’s charges have a clean bill of health as they brace themselves for a winner takes all clash against Ballygarvan in the junior A football county final championship – this takes place on Sunday, in Pairc Ui Rinn, throw in 3pm. Head and shoulders above the opposition in North Cork, Glanworth are in with a real shout here and won’t want for support on Leeside.
Those close to the team believe there’s a big performance left in the Harbour lads who play a great brand of football. Two epic finals await, let the games begin!
