Fermoy's Ruth takes the jump for St Patrick's in Kilkenny
There are many kinds of fundraisers but a skydive is one of the more unusual ones I'm sure you will agree. Well, St Patrick's Hospital, Fermoy is set to benefit from such an undertaking when Ruth Baker from Fermoy takes off into the skies on Saturday, July 19 from Kilkenny Aerodrome.
Ruth has hooked up with Skydive Ireland and as it her first time taking the jump, she says she is 'excited but also a little anxious'.
"I suffer from a neurological condition and I would simply like to give back something to a hospital facility and what better charity than St Patrick's Hospital here in the town," said the 30 year old single mother of one.
To help swell the fund a little, she is holding a draw in Crean's Bar, Oliver Plunkett Hill on this Sunday at 5pm to which all are welcome.
"A number of local businesses have come on board with spot prizes and for that I would like to express my thanks to The Grand Hotel, Fermoy Medical Hall, Vannilla Boutique, Fermoy Golf Club, Barnes' Jewellers, Carry Out Off Licence, Avondhu Motor Factors, JB's Hackney Service, Shinnick's Spar and The Forge Restaurant. Thanks also to Crean's for facilitating the draw and to all those who sponsored me."
