FITTING FAREWELL TO ‘FERMOY’S FIRST LADY’
Tributes, testimonials and tears flowed last weekend as the people of Fermoy and beyond gathered to say a poignant farewell to Cllr Aileen Pyne - one of the town’s best known personalities.
It was that powerful personality that attracted her, first to the demands of teaching and then to the often precarious world of politics. She was first elected to Fermoy Town Council in 1974 – a chamber not for the faint hearted.
STEADY COURSE
Aligned to the Fine Gael party all her adult life, she never lost her independence of thought and, through a combination of steely determination and searing honesty, always managed to steer a steady course.
