FIANNA FAIL TO RUN 5 IN FERMOY
A spokesperson for Fianna Fail has confirmed that the party will run five candidates for Fermoy Town Council in the upcoming local elections, including Councillor John Murphy who was last elected to the council as an independent, writes Joe Leogue.
Joining Cllr Murphy on the Fianna Fail ticket are Olive Corcoran, Collette Moore, Liam McLaughlin and Michael Hartnett, who unsuccessfully ran for the town council in 2004.
The 2004 local elections proved to be embarrassing for Fianna Fail in Fermoy, where not one of the nine seats up for grabs went to a declared party candidate.
While Councillors Murphy and Tim Carey, currently both members of a local Fianna Fail cumann, were elected as independents to the council in 2004, Fianna Fail candidates Richie O’Leary, Paul Lillis and Michael Hartnett failed to secure a seat, amassing just 236 first preference votes between them.
