FERMOY SHOPS HELP WITH PARKING CHARGES
Deemed a vital source of revenue by the local authority paying to park remains a thorny issue in Fermoy.
The situation is more pronounced in this North Cork town as no such charges exist in neighbouring Mitchelstown. Businessman and local councillor Peter Merrigan has come up with a novel proposal to soften the financial pain on hard pressed motorists.
His initiative involves getting town centre businesses to display stickers indicating that if €20 or more is spent, the business concerned will refund shoppers 70 cent – those availing of the offer will have to produce their parking ticket slip.
He has put his proposal to the traders concerned and has received a very enthusiastic response. He claims the logistics of getting the incentive up and running are reasonably straight-forward and hopes to have the innovative scheme up and running by the end of March.
In the present economic climate Peter says it’s important the business community in Fermoy give something back to their customers.
