FERMOY GIRL HOSTS FUNDRAISER FOR GAMBIA
Viki Flynn of Fermoy is to host a charity race night for The Gambia Reality charity agency in The Big Tree, Aghern on Saturday, July 4. It promises to be a fun filled night with a best dressed lady competition sponsored by Vanilla (€50 voucher to the winner), 9 horse races, a pig race and a charity run sponsored by BAM Contractors Ltd.
The other races are sponsored by, Rathbarry Stud, All Kinds of Everything in Tallow, Hackett's Reprographics, Duntahane Veterinary Clinic, McDonnell Brothers, Coolagown, Anne Tobin Bookmakers, Tallow and Juniper Restaurant. Many of the local businesses have been very kind offering spot prizes for the night and there will also be a raffle and refreshments.
The organisers are selling horses, owners or trainers for €5 each or €15 to do all three. Viki Flynn, originally from Oxford, first came to Fermoy to work at Rathbarry Stud in 1999 for 6 months. She studied horse racing at college and it is one of her burning passions.
Viki subsequently returned to Conna in 2002 to work in construction. Love then bloomed in North Cork where she met Brendan Flynn of Ballytrasna and the couple tied the knot last year. Suzie Hawkins runs The Gambia Reality charity and she’s a friend of one of Viki’s buddies in Oxford, Natalie Moss, who is also very active in the charity, organising fundraisers, sponsorship of children etc.
Natalie got married the year before last and actually spent her honeymoon in the Gambia helping the children there. Viki Flynn, an ardent supporter of the charity, has sponsored a child in the Gambia for the last 3 years and every penny raised goes directly to the cause.
The Gambia Reality has so far built two nursery schools, trained teachers and provided teaching materials for children aged 2 to 7. The charity also get sponsors for children to provide education, school uniforms, lunch each day and mosquito nets for as little as €25 per year, which can change their lives forever.
