FERMOY FLOOD PLAN STILL AN EMOTIVE ISSUE
Cork county councillor, Aileen Pyne has called on the local authority to once again write to Minister for State with responsibility for the Office of Public Works Dr Martin Mansergh to confirm a date for the start of works on a flood relief plan for Fermoy.
Cllr Pyne’s request was prompted by the latest update from the OPW circulated to members of the Northern committee of Cork County Council this week which revealed that stage 2 of the Mallow flood scheme is due to be completed by June or July.
By contrast the closing date for tenders for the first phase of the Fermoy scheme is at the end of this month, with the date as to when the works would commence still to be announced.
Cllr Pyne said that while she apologised for repeating the call for a letter to be sent to the OPW every month, the measure was required to ensure that the flood relief plan for Fermoy, which is ‘an emotive issue’ in the town, is on track.
