FERMOY CLOSURE RUMOURS STRONGLY DENIED
Fermoy is alive with rumours of a number of prominent businesses about to close but the business owners, some of whom have been in Fermoy for over 100 years, have vigorously denied these.
The businesses cited include Joe Murphy Menswear, Hickey’s ladies and menswear shop, O’Mahony floorcoverings and the Centra supermarket but, according to the shop owners themselves, there is absolutely no foundation to the rumours whatsoever.
“We are 51 years in business, and would hope to be here for another 51,” was the response from Ray Murphy of Joe Murphy Menswear.
When asked if he had heard the rumours himself, Ray confirmed that he had.
“People should be concentrating on the positives instead of being so negative. Fermoy has lots of positives to offer, particularly as it still can boast a lot of family owned businesses.”
Susan Hickey, whose family business has been in Fermoy since 1876, also rubbished the rumours.
“We are delighted with our trading year thanks to our loyal customers and we have arriving on a daily basis a beautiful selection of special occasion, Confirmation/Communion and causal wear. These rumours are completely unfounded,” she told The Avondhu.
The Fermoy business owners are totally in the dark as to where and why these rumours began.
