Environmentally aware St Colman's students
The environmentally conscious students of St Colman's College, Fermoy, will see the culmination of many months hard work this weekend when they deposit several hundred old batteries for recycling.
The Green Schools Committee of the college, rooted in Transition Year but essentially a school-wide initiative, is almost at the end of its first year in operation.
One of the areas they've been most active in is in encouraging the correct disposal of old batteries, in line with WEE requirements. Their distinctive blue box collection points have been very well supported throughout the school and are just part of an overall green recycling plan in force at St Colman's.
This Saturday sees the official WEE collection for recyclable electrical items taking place in Fermoy and Mitchelstown, an event the student committee is very anxious to promote and coincide with.
To further promote their reuse-recycle ethos and to chronicle their efforts so far, this weekend will also see the launch of St Colman's College new dedicated website for the Green Schools Committee www.stcolmanscollege.com/greenschools
