DRIVERS UNAWARE OF FERMOY CAR PARK
Amidst reports of a shortage of car parking in Fermoy town due to the ongoing road works on MacCurtain Street and the necessary work that is taking place in part of the library car park, it appears that many motorists are not aware of another car park located at Kevin Barry Hill in the town. Kevin Barry Hill car park is located just above the library car park in Fermoy.
Despite continued complaints about the lack of car parking spaces in the town, The Avondhu discovered that at lunchtime on Wednesday there were over 25 spaces available at this facility.
MORE SENSE
One lady contacted The Avondhu this week to complain about the work currently being carried out on part of the library car park.
“Why is this being done now when there is an obvious lack of parking in the town with the work on MacCurtain Street etc. It’s a nightmare trying to get parking in the town. It would have made more sense to wait until the work is complete in MacCurtain Street before taking car parking space from the library.”
GRANT RECEIVED
The Avondhu put this question to Fermoy town engineer John O’Leary who confirmed that the work on the library car park was planned before the NRA announced the works on MacCurtain Street.
A grant was received from the Cork County Council, and, for the first time, car parks were on the list to be enhanced.
Mr O’Leary added, “This was at no cost to Fermoy Town Council and if the work wasn’t carried out at this time the money would be lost. The wall badly needed to be restored for health and safety reasons, and a general tidy up of the area undertaken.”
John confirmed that it will take a further four weeks to complete the work, and said, “Although the timing is not ideal, with the road- works on MacCurtain Street, people need to bear in mind that there are plenty car parking spaces at Kevin Barry Hill.”
