COUNCILLORS TO MEET DEVELOPERS ON HOTEL PROPOSAL
A new hotel for Fermoy is still a possibility if the latest meeting that is planned to take place between Lawton Development and the elected councillors results in an acceptable arrangement for both sides involved.
A date hasn’t yet been decided upon, but both parties are in talks and hope for a positive outcome, indicating their willingness to collaborate. The meeting comes about in response to a letter sent by the town council to the developer.
For now, the councilors are waiting for a representative from the Lawton company to contact them and indicate the new offer on the site, but, as it was illustrated in the previous meeting which the councillors attended, the Lawton Group is not likely to draw up any plans before a serious commitment is made.
The meeting is expected to be open to the press unless otherwise requested by the majority of the councillors. Mayor Tadhg O’Donovan stressed that as long as he is in the chair of the council, “any meeting I propose will be an open meeting.”
The proposal for a much needed new hotel in Fermoy has long been a divisive issue.
It is hoped that an agreement will be reached sooner rather than later, for the benefit of the town.
