BUSINESS GROUP AIMS TO ENTICE MORE PEOPLE WITH SUMMER FESTIVALS
Promoted by the local business action group in an effort to bring more people into the town, the first in a series of summer festivals is due to kick off in Fermoy on Saturday, June 11.
Patrick’s Street is set to be the stage for what promises to be a fantastic afternoon out in the town and the organizers are inviting everybody to come along and enjoy the fun.
"We have been planning this series of festivals for a long time and now we are almost ready,” Noel Barnes of Fermoy Business Action Group (FBAG) told The Avondhu.
“There will be something for everybody with a giant ceili followed by a super hero princess parade. The musical entertainment will be provided by the Fermoy choir and there will be lots of other bands playing live on the street that afternoon. We will also have a theatre group and a monster barbecue to finish the afternoon off,” Noel said.
World record attempt The event on June 11 is the first in a series of festival-type events that the people of Fermoy and the surrounding area can look forward to.
“On Saturday, July 2 the Fermoy Water Festival will get under way with lots of activities on and around the Blackwater River. We will have fishing workshops, boating and rafting on the river, a teddy bears picnic and a busking festival,” Noel continued.
Then, on Saturday, July 23, Fermoy will host a world record attempt.
“As part of the Fermoy dance festival Patrick Street will be closed to traffic once again for a world record breaking attempt for the largest amount of people taking part in a ‘brush dance’. So, get practicing and get ready for a summer of fun in Fermoy,” Noel Barnes signed off.
