ANGRY REACTION TO COURT RUMOURS
Members of Fermoy Town Council have reacted angrily to rumours that the town’s District Court services are to be relocated to Mallow.
“I am deeply disturbed by this rumour. Having spent €7million on this building we should be getting maximum use of it. The reality is every town is in opposition, Fermoy is in competition with Mallow and its hub status,” Cllr Michael Hanley said.
Cllr Aileen Pyne alluded to the visit of then Minister for Justice Brian Lenihan to Fermoy on the opening of the facility just over a year ago adding that the town had “lost enough to Mallow.”
Cllr John Murphy and Mayor Tadhg O’Donovan both cited the significant investment in the new courthouse and feared for the implications such a relocation would have for the local economy.
Cllr Peter Merrigan said the courthouse was amongst the best in the country and that he failed to see the logic in the move.
