Youghal Visual Arts Festival

The programme includes a host of attractions from quality art by professional local, national and international artists in the Central Gallery to an exhibition of children’s work by the winners of the inter primary schools competition. Not forgetting the spectacular ‘Walking Gallery’ where the Main Street of Youghal is transformed into an enthralling gallery experience.
The much acclaimed Youghal Carpets Exhibition by local artist Marcella Reardon and fellow artist Derek Spiers makes a welcome debut in Youghal. The exhibition is a photographic chronicle of the final weeks of the world famous Youghal Carpets Factory before its closure in 2007.
In recognition of the contribution made by local man Liam O’Leary to the founding of the Irish Film Society in 1936, a sample of his work will be on display.
If this is not enough to keep you interested there is an extensive programme of artist led workshops for the children and even a couple for the family. There will be the chance to experience a wide range of art media from pastel to paint, sand and even shaving foam.
As a special treat for the whole family why not come and see the unique and captivating show by the local Windy Lane Puppet Theatre. Two free shows will be held for all to enjoy with music by the Beatles and other popular favourites this show is sure to entertain all children from 1 – 101+ years of age.
Keeping on the local theme, five local Youth groups from the Youghal area will hold a Film Gala night where they will showcase a selection of short films produced by the groups themselves.
For those more serious about art and creating it there will be a one day workshop held by Sarah Searson in which she will be able to guide and advise the new and developing professional artist through the minefield of Artist Promotion.
All in all the Youghal Visual Arts Festival will be an exciting and inspiring week for everyone!
