The University of Pikeville Singers from Pikeville, Kentucky will present "Music from the Mountains" -- a collection of Old American Hymns, Spirituals, and Songs, on Friday, May 25 at Killarney Methodist Church located at Kenmare Place in Killarney. The concert will feature works composed and arranged by Aaron Copland, Rosephayne Powell, Moses Hogan, Stephen Foster, and Kentuckian folk artist John Jacob Niles. Titles will include “Home on that Rock”, “I Wanna Be Ready”, “The Sweetest Gift”, and the Kentucky folk hymn “Bright Morning Stars”.
The University of Pikeville Singers specializes in solo, duet, quartet, and ensemble singing and is one of two university choral ensembles. The University of Pikeville was founded in 1889 by Presbyterian missionaries that wanted to provide educational opportunities for the youth of the mountains and currently serves as the leading institution of higher education in Central Appalachia.
