Despite the controversies that surround tech use, innovative college directors are using technology to improve the learning experience for students. Some examples include a college-preparatory high school that uses a computer-based learning environment, as well as a multimodal academic setting at Utah Tech University.
College Preps 1:1 laptop program
Using a combination of innovative teaching techniques and technology, College Prep integrates digital learning throughout the curriculum, ensuring technology equity for all students. Moreover, students are trained in the effective use of personal computing through ninth-grade tech orientation. In addition, the school maker space and computer science classes help students learn how to design, fabricate, and build objects.
College Prep offers a laptop program for every student, from freshmen through high school seniors. Students can choose from a variety of devices, including Macs and PCs. They also have access to computers with touchscreens and pen capabilities. As part of the program, students will take home a laptop at the end of each year.
